Bendix King KNG-P150CMD Command Version Digital Portable Radio
~~~DISCONTINUED~~~
Replaced by KNG2-P150CMD
The KNG-P150 CMD is the newest radio made for Calfire. This radio comes with 5000 Channels and 100 programmable quick call ID's. This radio also has a state of the art vocoder which is what encodes voice picked up by the microphone for transmission. Analog voice signal from the microphone is converted to a digital string to transmit to other radios, the radios receiving the digital string then convert the code to Analog voice to be heard out of the speaker. The vocoder also removes background noise from the voice transmissions for clear communications. For public safety personel like firefighters and police officers the vocoder is an important part of a radio not to be overlooked. The vocoder on a fire radio is especially important because of background noises like sirens, chainsaws, fire, trucks, engines, etc. Even if you don't know what a vocoder is you are counting on the vocoder in your fire radio to pick your voice out from the background noise and encode it for transmission, so that the person receiving your transmission can hear you, instead of all that background noise. The BK Radio KNG Command includes the most up to date vocoder available, so that you can count on your fire radio.
Easy for the communicationally challenged. Review by firedad1
How would you rate this product? When it is set up right, it’s a breeze to use. Easy for even the “challenging” firefighters. Clamshell life is poor and it is a computer, so you can fix anything. Overall a solid radio. (Posted on 9/30/2017)
Good transition to smaller radio with very similar functions Review by Jess
How would you rate this product? It was hard to transition to anything from what we have been used to with the digital HT radios, but this is a good switch. The smaller size is nice and most functions are the same. hand programming and simple priority changes are more time consuming on the KNG's but once used to it, not too bad. (Posted on 9/29/2017)
Solid, easy to use Review by Susan
How would you rate this product? I love the ease of programing and cloning the new KNG. Not that the old ones were difficult, but this is super easy! Our department bought several, and the retrain time was only a few minutes per firefighter.
This summer we had a fire near a communications site with over 50 radio and TV towers. The people using the new KNG were the only ones able to communicate across the interference.
The only down side seems to be the volume... those without remote mics were complaining of not being able to hear well. (Posted on 9/28/2017) -
Clamshells, no, radio, yes! Review by KE6IYC
How would you rate this product? Working large fires with BLM and USFS (outside of CA mostly) in the COMT role, I don't come across these 'in the wild' very often. So I bought my own. Overall, a good solid radio, but the clamshell is a well known issue. Not only is the battery life significantly reduced, but I am starting to see a quantity of failures from contacts breaking off. Of course, a rechargeable fixes both problems, but be sure to take your charger with you on assignment, as you may not find one in camp. As a side note, a KNG (any flavor) with 24 AA batteries is only one ounce heavier than a DPH with 9 AA batteries. No complains on the function of the radio, but make sure you keep your firmware up to date, as if you don't, there may be weird results when cloning from radios other than a DPH. Solid HT Review by Elk chaser
How would you rate this product? Great HT! The additional channel capacity and the size I really like! I also like the ability to make multiple command groups and 2 priority channels. There is a common complaint on the AA clam shell life but it’s part computer so if you use the rechargeable then you will get multiple 24 hr shifts out of it and it tells you the battery level on the display. Reliable and user friendly Review by Smitty
Big Upgrade Review by Ryon
How would you rate this product? This radio is huge upgrade from the old BK bricks that we carried around for years. Programing, size, cloning, clarity are all improved. These new KNG radios work more like first gen cell phones for ease of getting to know the new KNG. (Posted on 9/26/2017)
Definitely worth the money. Review by Jose Delgado
How would you rate this product? I am a COMT for the USFS and this is the best BK Radio I have ever used. Relm took there time in the design and paid attention to detail when they made these. User friendly, Keypad Programmable, Simplified User interface. If you can use a smartphone you will have no issue field programming or using this radio. Definitely worth the money...
